Hawaii Gov. Lingle Signs Bill to Increase Solar Energy

On June 26, 2008, Governor Linda Lingle signed into law a bill to increase the use of one of Hawaii's most abundant renewable energy sources and reduce dependence on imported oil. With the Governor's signature, Hawaii becomes the first state in the nation to require the installation of solar water heating systems on new single-family homes.

Hawaii Developing Energy Code Based on 2006 IECC

State officials hope to have a final draft of Hawaii's version of the 2006 IECC submitted to the Hawaii Building Code Council by their scheduled August 12 meeting. If the Council accepts the proposal, additional time will be necessary to formalize the code and adopt it. The counties of Hawaii are free to submit the draft to their County Councils for codification and adoption, though this has been deemed to be unlikely for the next several months.

Honolulu LEED bill shelved in council for now

A City Council committee yesterday set aside for now a bill that would require developers and homebuilders to make their buildings more environmentally friendly, but the committee promised to explore the issue further.

Bill 87-07 would mandate that all new buildings meet minimum standards established under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating system beginning in 2010.

Hawaii Adopts 2006 IECC

The Hawaii code council has adopted the 2006 IECC, with no implementation date set yet.
