What BCAP Does

  • Deliver state-based code advocacy on behalf of the US Department of Energy’s Building Energy Code Program (BECP)
    • Conduct workshops for state policy makers, builders, code officials, designers, and others on the benefits and specific features of the model energy code.
    • Rally support from public and private stakeholders for state and local code adoption activities
    • Provide information and develop resources on the energy and carbon benefits associated with state code improvements
    • Review and advise on state and local code adoption legislation
    • Testify at the state and local level for adoption of the model energy code
  • Serve as a clearinghouse on energy code information
    • Develop up-to-date information on national, state, and local code activities and adoption through website and quarterly newsletter
    • (In Development) Provide Code Basics resources
    • (In Development) Provide detailed supporting material on potential state code amendments that are intended to improve energy efficiency – Code Builder
  • Develop resources to support code compliance
    • Assist states in creating/expanding state Code College pages to provide on-line code information and training (i.e. content development, secure co-funding, training development)
    • Develop resources with the International Code Council to support IECC implementation
  • Provide energy code trainings & workshops
    • Work with states to deliver technical information on new and pending energy code changes and on advanced codes and standards
