Louisiana Legislature Considers Removing the Energy Code from the Residential Construction Code

Louisiana House Bill 41, exempts from enforcement the energy conservation section of the International Residential Code. This bill would remove the Energy code from the state uniform construction code. As of March 31, 2008, HB 41 was referred to the Committee on Commerce.

Present law provides that the building code council shall adopt and amend only the latest editions of the International Residential Code, including Part IV-Energy Conservation, as the state uniform construction code.
Proposed law removes Part IV-Energy Conservation from being included in the state uniform construction code.

Present law amends the latest edition of the International Residential Code to require that supply and return ducts be insulated to a minimum of R-6.

Proposed law repeals present law.
